Fritz Spindler (born November 24, 1816 in Wurzbach , Reuss-Lobenstein , † December 27, 1905 in Niederlößnitz ) was a German pianist and composer ("Tonkünstler").

Life

Fritz Spindler, born in Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Spindler, originally wanted to be a pastor and initially studied Protestant theology, but gave up in favor of his love for music. In Dessau he studied piano with Friedrich Schneider and then devoted himself to teaching and composition. In 1841 Spindler settled in Dresden and published over four hundred compositions, most of them written for piano . These included numerous fantasies on themes from Richard Wagner's operas .

From 1889 at the latest, Spindler was based in Niederlößnitz, where the address book shows him as a tenant, living at Weststrasse 9 (today Heinrich-Heine-Strasse 8). At the time of his death at home, Spindler was the owner of the now listed villa at Heinrich-Heine-Straße 8 , where he lived as a widower with his daughter Johanna Gabriele, a singing teacher. The painter Erwin Spindler (1860–1926) was the eleventh of his children.
