Fritz Weidling

Fritz Weidling (born June 27, 1900 in Reetz ; † May 8, 1970 in Rottweil ) was an officer , most recently judge general , of the German Air Force in World War II .

Life

Weidling joined the Colberg Grenadier Regiment Graf Gneisenau (2nd Pomeranian) No. 9 on June 4, 1917 as a squire and company officer , where he remained until its demobilization on March 31, 1920.

In 1929 the book "Das Colbergsche Grenadier-Regiment Graf Gneisenau (2nd Pomeranian) No. 9 in the World Wars 1914-1918" was published by Gerhard Stalling-Verlag Oldenburg, written by him and Johannes Hansch. He joined the Luftwaffe on November 1, 1935. Weidling later served as a senior judge at Luftkreiskommando II . From an unknown point in time until June 15, 1943, he held the post of head of the legal department in the Reich Ministry of Aviation . Subsequently, Weidling was from June 15 to September 9, 1943 company commander in the 13th Air Force Field Division , which at that time was engaged in trench warfare in the Volkhov area . Weidling was then employed as a company commander or orderly officer in the Hermann Göring Air Force Regiment . Here he was taken prisoner of war in Italy on October 17, 1943 , from which he was released in 1947.
