Fritz Heide

Hermann Wilhelm Friedrich Heide (* around December 19, 1891 , † December 17, 1973 ) was a German mineralogist .

Life

After completing his doctorate at the University of Jena, Heide worked for several years at the University of Göttingen with Victor Moritz Goldschmidt , where he got to know geochemical work and the corresponding investigation methods.

In 1930 he was appointed full professor for mineralogy, crystallography and petrography in Jena. A chair for geology and paleontology was set up, which Wilfried von Seidlitz received, so that these two subjects were also separated in Jena. Heide continued the chemical-mineralogical and chemical-petrographic direction founded by his predecessor Gottlob Linck and developed it primarily through the expansion of the geochemical work area, which was followed in later years by the development of the salt petrography work area.

Fritz Heide did research in the field of meteorite science; in 1952 he became a member of the Leopoldina .

His son Klaus Heide became a lecturer for glass chemistry and professor for mineralogy, his grandson Gerhard Heide holds a professorship for mineralogy at the TU Freiberg .
