From Dust is a computer game from Ubisoft in the god simulation genre . The game was developed by Eric Chahi , who referred to it as the spiritual successor to Populous .
Gameplay
The player takes on the role of the deity Odem , who has various skills to change the landscape. The aim of the game is to pave a traversable path to a totem pole for a primitive people by changing the landscape . To do this, the player can move sand, water and lava to build dams or divert lava flows. The game uses a physics engine to simulate a dynamic natural landscape in which the player's actions and natural conditions such as volcanic eruptions or tsunamis rapidly change the landscape.
development
Eric Chahi said he was inspired to play the game by visiting the active Yasur Volcano in Vanuatu . As further sources of inspiration he gave the games Populous and Rez . At the end of 2006, Chahi presented the game idea Ubisoft. Development began in 2008 at the Ubisoft development studio in Montpellier .
