Eric Chahi
Éric Chahi (born October 21, 1967 in Yerres ) is a French computer game designer , programmer and illustrator , who is known as the creator of the video game Another World . Along with Philippe Ulrich , Frederick Raynal and Michel Ancel, he is one of the most outstanding French designers of computer games of the 20th and 21st centuries.
In this context, Chahi was the first to develop a method for embedding 2D polygons in video games using vector coordinates . This enabled him to create flowing animations and cutscenes in full screen size with the least amount of memory . The process is still used today in Adobe Flash .
Career
Eric Chahi started programming on Oric Atmos and Amstrad in 1983 for Loriciels . Soon after, he switched to the Atari ST and Amiga platforms , on which he created games such as Jeanne D'Arc and Voyage au Center de la Terre ( Journey to the Center of the Earth ). In 1989, Eric Chahi joined Delphine Software to work on the graphics for Future Wars . Only supported by the musician Jean-François Freitas, Chahi finally programmed and produced Another World , which Delphine Software released in 1991 for Amiga.
Chahi left Delphine Software and worked for many years at Amazing Studios on the game Heart of Darkness , which was only released in 1998. Chahi then retired from the game industry for a few years.
A version of Another World for Symbian cell phones was created in 2005 in collaboration with Cyril Cogordan, who in April of the same year published a free but unofficial version of the game for the Game Boy Advance , which was later authorized by Chahi.
After Chahi had acquired the rights to Another World , Another World: 15th Anniversary Edition, a technically revised new edition of his classic for Windows XP PCs , was released in 2006 for the fifteenth year anniversary .
In 2008, Chahi started developing From Dust at Ubisoft , which was released in 2011.
