Front Line Defenders is a non-governmental organization based in Dublin , Ireland , committed to helping human rights defenders in vulnerable situations.

The foundation publishes cases of endangered, threatened, imprisoned and disappeared human rights activists and advocates for these people in international organizations and national authorities. She publishes documentation on these cases.

The organization also offers advice and information for human rights activists on the possibilities of better protection, including in the IT area. It supports those affected financially and, if desired, offers them refuge in a safe place. The organization also offers exchange opportunities for activists.

The organization presents the Front Line Defenders Award annually to people or organizations who have made a special contribution to the protection of human rights. She is involved in the presentation of the Martin Ennals Award .

history

The foundation was established in 2001 by Mary Lawlor in Dublin. Denis O'Brien donated the foundation's capital of 3 million US dollars.

Structures

The organization maintains regional offices in countries in Africa, Asia, North and South America and the Middle East. She has an office at the European Union in Brussels .

The association has consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations . She supports the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders. The organization has observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights . She works with the Council of Europe and various international human rights organizations.
