The Frontier Nunatakker are a small and isolated group of Nunatakkers in the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . They are located about 32 km west of the Sentinel Range in the far west of the Ellsworth Mountains .
The Nunatakker were first visited by the American geologist Thomas W. Bastien (1933-2010), head of the team at the University of Minnesota to explore the Ellsworthsgebirge, between 1963 and 1964. Bastien gave them their name because of their peripheral location ( English frontier , border area ).
