Froschbrunnen in Weimar from the front

The Froschbrunnen in Weimar is located behind the school called Staatliche Gemeinschaftschule Jenaplanschule Weimar (formerly Christoph-Martin-Wieland-Schule Weimar) on Steubenstrasse and the corner of Cropiusstrasse.

Frog well from half left

A frog sits confidently on the pillar behind the fountain trough, which gave the fountain its name. The corners under the frog fins are shown as stylized ravens.

The fountain, made from local shell limestone, was created around 1910 by the sculptor Arno Zauche , a student of Adolf von Donndorf, on behalf of the city . It is the only public, pure limestone fountain preserved in Weimar. Originally set up in the grounds below the State Museum on Jakobsplan , it was moved to its current location in 1938, the place of the old dilapidated seminar well. This well has been water-bearing again since 1985. On the right side there is an attached animal drinking bowl. This tubular fountain receives its water from the Kirschbachtal fountain pipe.

In addition to the frog fountain, Arno Zauche created the mallard fountain, another fountain with an animal motif in Weimar.

The frog fountain has been added to the list of cultural monuments in Weimar (individual monuments) .
