General Fujie Keisuke

Fujie Keisuke ( Japanese 藤 江 恵 輔 ; born November 8, 1885 in Hyōgo Prefecture ; † February 27, 1969 ) was a general in the Imperial Japanese Army .

Life

Fujie was born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1885 and graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1905, specializing in artillery . In 1914 he also graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army University .

After various posts in the Imperial General Staff , Fujie was sent to Europe as a military attaché for some time and served, among other things, in the Japanese embassies in Paris , Bucharest and Sofia . Following his return to Japan, he became a teacher at the Army Staff College and commander of the 5th Field Artillery Regiment.

Fujie was later assigned to the headquarters of the 16th Division and was part of the Japanese delegation to the Geneva Disarmament Conference . In August 1934 he was promoted to major general . From 1936 to 1937 he was the commander of the Kempeitai division within the Kwantung Army . In November 1937 he was promoted to lieutenant general.

During the Second Sino-Japanese War he only took command of the 16th Division. However, he was later recalled to Japan and appointed commander of the Army Staff College. In February 1943 he was appointed commander of the Eastern District Army. In March 1945, while he was still in command of the 12th Regional Army , Fujie resigned and retired. However, he was called back into service in June of the same year to command the 11th Regional Army in the Tōhoku region . There she had the order to defend the Japanese motherland against the expected Allied invasion .
