action

The twelve-year-old Mitsuki Kōyama ( 神山 満 月 ) suffers from a tumor that has attacked her neck. Since she would lose her voice as a result of the saving operation, she refuses this operation. As a child, she swore to her crush Eichi, whom she met in the orphanage, that she would become a famous singer so that he could find her again after he moved to the USA. Shortly after moving Eichis Mitsuki's grandmother brings her to him, forbids her to become a singer, as her daughter, however - Mitsuki's mother - with the singer of the band Route L blew. The two died in a car accident shortly after Mitsuki's birth.

One day, two Shinigami (translated as angel of death in German) announce that she will die in a year. Since she only has one year left, Mitsuki is determined to give everything to make her dream come true in the time she has left and takes part in a vocal competition organized by Seed Records. Takuto, one of the two Shinigami, briefly transforms her into a sixteen-year-old healthy girl so that she can participate. Meroko, the female part of the duo, is initially against it, but is passed over by Mitsuki and Takuto. Mitsuki wins the casting and now appears under the stage name Fullmoon , the English translation of her first name. The Shinigami, who can transform themselves into small animals, Takuto into a cat and Meroko into a rabbit, are at her side with help and advice. Takuto feels a connection with Mitsuki, but cannot explain why. He also falls in love with Mitsuki, which Meroko really doesn't like. Mitsuki rejects Takuto because her heart only belongs to Eichi. At this point it also comes out that Shinigami committed suicide in their previous life. Meroko feels ignored and rejected. In her need, she calls another Shinigami to help. These are Izumi, who brings his partner Jonathan with him. Meroko was madly in love with Izumi, who was also her former partner before Takuto. Actually she still loves him, but since he hurt her very deeply, she denies it. At first Izumi Mitsuki's career tries to put obstacles in the way, but when he also gets to know her, he too is enchanted by her pure soul and supports her from now on. In the beautiful scene where Izumi says to Mitsuki, "Why do you think suicides become angels of death? We are sinners." and thereby expressing that all angels of death consider this a punishment - an eternal cursed life, condemned to repeat the mistake they made in life over and over again - Mitsuki replies firmly with, "I think it is an opportunity ! So that you can find your happiness someday! " and thus expresses again that she is special and has a special view of things.

When Takuto tries to find out something about Eichi, he meets a person from his previous life and memories of this come back. As long as he is still an incomplete shinigami, it is dangerous to have memories of his previous life, because if you remember your whole life as an incomplete shinigami, you become a ghost. Fortunately, Takuto, who is still an incomplete Shinigami, only remembers parts of his life. He was also a member of Mitsuki's father's Route L band before he committed suicide . After his death, he started a solo career, but had to give it up because, like Mitsuki, he suffered from a tumor in his throat. He lost his voice during the operation and fell from a building. The doctor who operated on him was the third member of the band. This doctor still works in the hospital today and is also responsible for Mitsuki's examinations. The connection between Mitsuki and Takuto becomes very clear here.

The four Shinigami try to find Eichi to make Mitsuki happy. They discover a newspaper article about a plane crash and learn that Eichi was killed in it. When Mitsuki notices that the three of them know of Eichi's death, she runs away. But Takuto finds it and rebuilds it. Mitsuki soon falls in love with him. Meroko is desperate again. Because of this and also because she had built a protective wall so that no more Shinigami could find Mitsuki, she is very weak and her memories of her previous life return. Fortunately, since she is already a complete shinigami, this is not dangerous for her. But it turns out that her death is the reason that Mitsuki's grandma hates music. Meroko, who was called Moe in her previous life, was Fuzuki's best friend, Mitsuki's grandma. Both girls fell in love with the same boy who made music. But he chose Fuzuki, which is why Moe took his own life. Believing that the man she loved is Mitsuki's grandpa, she tries to take Mitsuki's soul, but Takuto protects Mitsuki. After Mitsuki explains to Meroko that Fuzuki is her mother's mother and that the man she was in love with is her father's father, she deeply regrets what she did. She shows herself to Fuzuki in the form she was before her death, and both women can finally finish with it.

Izumi's past also comes to light. As a little boy he threw himself in front of the train because his mother had only hatred him since his father died. For every successfully completed job, Izumi receives a small bottle with a reminder and still hopes that there is a nice one underneath. So far he has been disappointed every time.

After Mitsuki's life was peaceful for a while, she receives many packages from her fans for her birthday. One of them, which her manager opens, contains firecrackers that explode and injure Mitsuki's manager. After a singer friend of Mitsuki is attacked with a knife and a bottle (which fortunately only contains water) is thrown at her at a concert, which meets her producer, Mitsuki seriously considers giving up singing because she doesn't want anyone to get hurt because of her. Fortunately, her manager and Takuto can dissuade her. A short time later, the perpetrator is also caught.

Mitsuki is out on a date with Takuto when she has an attack of shortness of breath and passes out. She comes to in the hospital. Here it comes out that Mitsuki is a Fullmoon. Your manager and her grandma find out. Fortunately, Mitsuki's grandma has since changed her mind about Mitsuki's dream and allows her to continue singing.

Takuto and Meroko want to remove Mitsuki's name from the death list in order to save their lives. As a parting, Takuto gives her a necklace that she doesn't want to accept at first because she is already wearing a necklace from Eichi, but Takuto tells her that she doesn't have to take the necklace off, but can wear it together. Mitsuki decides to live and agrees to have an operation. Shortly after this decision, Jonathan comes and invites Mitsuki for a little walk. Mitsuki learns that Jonathan is actually Sheldon, the head of the Children's Department of the Realm of Death. This now wants to take Mitsuki's soul. Mitsuki asks him beforehand who would have actually declared them to be angels of death. She says to him that angels with white wings who bring stray souls into the realm of the dead stand for messengers of God, not for the punished. She says that for her the angels of death are angels of hope. With these words Mitsuki can also enchant Sheldon. Takuto, Meroko and Izumi also protect themselves in front of them. But the Death Master from the realm of the dead sends the "Wedge of Fate" to separate Mitsuki's soul from the body. Takuto throws himself in front of her and the spear pierces both of them. But then they both shine and the spear disappears. It turns out that Eichi's soul was with Mitsuki the whole time and protected her. Mitsuki's name had long since disappeared from the death list and she could only see the Shinigami through Eichi's presence.

At Fullmoon's farewell concert, Takuto vanishes into thin air. The assumption is that he was damaged by the javelin or, as an incomplete Shinigami, remembered his full past and therefore became a ghost.

The Death Master and Sheldon sacrifice themselves so that Mitsuki can keep her voice and continue singing despite her surgery. After three years, at another concert, Takuto suddenly appears in front of her as a person. In truth, he never died, just lay in a coma for a long time after throwing himself off the roof, and after waking - the time he disappeared as a Shinigami - it took three years to regain full health. After the reunion of the two and the overdue kiss in front of the entire audience, Mitsuki sings one last encore. As she stands on the stage, hand in hand with Takuto, smiling happily, a light comes off her. It is Eichi's soul. He cries, screams and reaches out to Mitsuki, but she can neither see nor hear him. But when he sees her happy laugh, he smiles too and dissolves. Meroko and Izumi have finally found each other. Meeting Mitsuki changed them both so that they are able to leave the past behind and be happy.
