The lottery was approved by the German aid community on the North German Radio organized, and these postcards were to participate in the lottery of the rate of broadcast radio lottery . For the first shipments from August 15, 1948, there were neither special postcards nor other forms for this, so the participants included a 50-pfennig bank note in the letter as payment . The first copies of the postcards appear on May 10, 1949 with a value stamp of initially 10 pfennigs . The selling price was initially 70 pfennigs, but was reduced to 65 pfennigs on July 27, 1951. The profit was used for charity. In the meantime, the program ran from November 1961 onwards, but then switched back to radio format after twelve episodes. The radio lottery was discontinued in April 1969. Just Scheu , Carl Voscherau and Annette von Aretin were the moderators of the show .

It was not until November 6, 1997 that a media lottery postcard was issued for participation in the competition for the ARD-Gala Sportler des Jahres 1997.
