Furio Jesi

Furio Jesi (born 1941 in Turin ; died 1980 in Genoa ) was an Italian German philologist , mythologist and author .

life and work

Furio Jesi was born in Turin in 1941 to a Jewish family and died in a domestic accident in 1980.

In addition to his studies of mythology , Egyptology , the history of religion and cultural history , he dealt intensively with German literature. Extended study visits took him mainly to Germany, Greece and Egypt.

From 1976 Jesi taught German language and literature at the University of Palermo , from 1979 he held a chair at the University of Genoa . He also translated German-language literature into Italian, such as works by Thomas Mann , Rainer Maria Rilke , Johann Jakob Bachofen , on whom he also wrote a biography, and Elias Canetti .

In addition to his extensive scientific work, he also wrote the vampire novel L'ultima notte (The Last Night), which appeared posthumously in 1987 . Translator Barbara Kleiner carried out a translation into German .
