The future 87 bulk carrier of the Japanese shipbuilding company IHI Marine United has been in series production since 2004/05.

details

The Future-87 series was designed in the mid-2000s by IHI Marine United, a joint venture between IHI and Sumitomo Heavy Industries , and has been delivered to various shipping companies since April 2005, starting with the Alam Padu . At the start of production, there were a dozen units of what was then the largest type in the shipbuilding company's order book.

The ships are as Kamsarmax - bulk carriers with aft mounted assemblies and double hull designed. Due to their dimensions, the units are specially designed for the transport of bauxite from Kamsar , but can also transport various other bulk goods such as grain, coal and minerals. The tank roof of the cargo hold is reinforced for the transport of ore. In addition, bagged goods, steel profiles, tubes and other bulk cargo can be transported, but no deck loads. They have seven cargo holds , each with its own hatch, the McGregor hatch covers that slide open to the side and are hydraulically operated. The ships do not have their own loading gear . The specialty of the ship type is the design as a double-hull ship with a larger overall width and shallower draft than with conventional Kamsarmax types. The current construction variant can transport around 87,000 tonnes with a draft of 14.10 m and has a total cargo space volume of 99,127 m³ for bulk goods.

The ships are powered by a two - stroke diesel engine . The engine enables a speed of around 14.5  knots . Several auxiliary diesels and an emergency diesel generator are available.
