Fuzzy Vandivier
Robert P. "Fuzzy" Vandivier (born December 26, 1903 in Franklin , Indiana , † July 30, 1983 ) was an American basketball player . Considered one of the greatest high school players of all time, he was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame of basketball in 1975. Vandivier was 1.83 m tall and played in the position of small forward .
Vandivier was the first superstar of the then still young sport of basketball. With the team of the local Franklin High School he won the Indiana state championship three times, from 1920 to 1922. The team was called the "Franklin Wonder Five" and is still considered the best in basketball history in Indiana. During the same period, he was called up three times for the Indiana all-state team, at the time the first ever player. Hall of Fame coach John Wooden considered him the best high school basketball player in history, comparable only to LeBron James .
From 1922 to 1926 Vandivier played at Franklin College. He then successfully coached his old high school for 18 years. A career as a professional player was denied to him due to a back injury in his senior year .
