Fysisk Format is a Norwegian independent label based in Oslo . It was founded in 2008 by Kristian Kallevik and its offices are in the Tiger Records building , a record store in downtown Oslo. The focus is on Norwegian bands in the metal , punk and alternative rock genres .

Label founder Kristian Kallevik studied literature in Bergen . After graduating, he moved to Oslo and started working as a salesman for Tiger Records . Five years later in 2008 he founded the Fysisk Format label. Kallevik was inspired by the discussion about the future of physical sound carriers such as CDs and LPs against the background of increasing music downloads for the name “fysisk format” (German: physical format) . With the label, he wanted to introduce Norwegian music groups in their home country that had already achieved a certain degree of notoriety outside of Norway. When selecting the bands, not only the music but also whether he harmonizes with the musicians plays a role. The selection of releases should represent the scene around the record store, the first signed groups already distributed their demos through Tiger Records . Fysisk Format's trademark is the folded packaging of the sound carriers, which is inspired by CD packaging from the US manufacturer Stumptown Printers.

Bands signed to Fysisk Format include Furze , Livstid , Blood Command , Årabrot and Next Life . With Solar Anus by Årabrot, a release by the label won the Spellemannprisen in the Metal category in 2010 , and in 2011 Blood Command's album Ghostclocks was one of the nominees in this category.
