G / Geschichte is a historical monthly magazine . It is published by Bayard Media in Augsburg .
Publishers
The magazine was first published in July 1979 under the title G-Geschichte mit Pfiff and was originally intended as a lesson support for students and teachers. Since the 1980s it has been aimed at a general public interested in history. The founding publisher was Johann Michael Sailer Verlag , Nuremberg, which has been part of the Bayard Media Group Germany in Augsburg since 2008 . Within the publishing group, the magazine switched to Bayard Media in 2009 .
Structure and content
A characteristic of G / Geschichte is the extensive title topic , which takes up around two thirds of every issue. The respective topic can come from all epochs or cultures in world history and is treated with different aspects taken into account. This approach and the use of different forms of presentation have had a lasting impact on popular science presentation over the past 30 years.
In addition to the cover story, each issue features a portrait of a historical personality; The historical background of current headlines is highlighted in the “Blickpunkt”. There is also the series “History in Everyday Life” and an alternating series on cultural-historical phenomena. Current exhibitions and new releases are presented in the service section. The website offers additional articles and information, bibliographies, TV tips for the day and a forum. The two comic characters Histor and Histörchen appeared frequently in the earlier editions, which then only posed the riddle in the 1990s and finally disappeared completely from the magazine in the new millennium.
The editor-in-chief was Franz Metzger from 1979 until the February 2009 edition . Klaus Hillingmeier has been responsible since March 2009, together with Christian Pantle since May 2017 .
G / special
In addition to the monthly issues, G / Geschichte also publishes special issues that deal entirely with a specific topic. Since 2015, special issues have been published twice a year in addition to the regular monthly edition, and since the end of 2017 four times a year under the title G / History Portrait.
