The Gold Coast Light Railway is a tram line in Gold Coast , a city on the southeast coast of the Australian state of Queensland . It opened on July 20, 2014, is marketed under the name G: link and is 13 kilometers long.
Route details
The 1st section
The eight-mile route runs from Gold Coast Hospital to Broadbeach South Station. The average speed is 23 km / h, the maximum speed is 70 km / h. The track width is 1,435 mm ( standard gauge ).
The 2nd section
In August 2016 the groundbreaking ceremony took place for an extension of the existing route by 7.3 km. On December 18, 2017, the extension line could already be put into traffic, i.e. before the start of the Commonwealth Games of 2018, which will take place in Gold Coast. The extension runs from the previous end of the line in a northerly direction and ends in Helensvale, where you can change trains to Brisbane .
Vehicle fleet
The tram Gold Coast is 14 railcars type Flexity 2 of Bombardier one. The low-floor sets are 43.5 meters long and offer space for 309 passengers, including 80 seats. A site-specific feature are mounts for surfboards.
In November 2015, four more trains of the same series were ordered from Bombardier, thereby redeeming a corresponding option from the initial order. The first vehicle was delivered in August 2017. These vehicles are required for traffic on the planned extension route.
