Flexity 2 in Blackpool

In July 2009 the first order to build Flexity-2 trams was placed. The City of Blackpool ordered 16 vehicles, which became the first low-floor vehicles on the Blackpool tram . The total cost was £ 33 million. The cars, designed as bidirectional vehicles , are made up of five parts and, with a length of 32.2 m and a width of 2.65 m, can hold 222 passengers.

On September 8, 2011, the first delivered unit was presented to the public in Blackpool. The first vehicles went into scheduled operation in spring 2012. Two more vehicles have been reordered for a planned extension.

The vehicles were manufactured in the Bautzen and Vienna plants, with final assembly and plant start-up taking place in Bautzen.

Gold coast

The newly built Gold Coast Rapid Transit System " G: link " in the city of Gold Coast in Queensland , Australia, which Bombardier Transportation was involved in building in the GoldLinQ consortium, also uses Flexity 2 trams. 14 seven-part, 43.5 m long vehicles have been in use since July 2014. In addition to space for wheelchairs and prams, there is also a special option for taking surfboards in the wagons. However, it is not possible to take bicycles with you (exception: folding bikes when folded).

According to Bombardier, the cars are 43 m long and 2.65 m wide on the outside. 13 km of linear route have 16 stations, a carriage 80 seats and 224 standing places (with 4 people / m²).

In the course of the expansion of the network, another 4 vehicles were ordered for operation on the route extension to Helensvale. These are to be delivered from August 2017.

Basel

Seven-part Flexity Basel

The Basler transporting enterprises have decided end of January 2012 to acquire 60 type trams Flexity Basel, which should be delivered in the third quarter, 2014. These are marketed by Bombardier as Flexity Basel . The order is worth over 220 million Swiss francs and is the largest single order in the company's history.

The vehicles are consistently low-floor, 2.3 m wide and are designed in two different lengths: First, the seven-part long version with 43.2 m length will be delivered, from 2017 the five-part short version with 31.8 m length will be used. The shorter, five-part vehicles are intended for the Bruderholz lines 15 and 16; for operational reasons, only shorter trains can run on them.

At the beginning of 2014, due to the positive change in the financing situation, the BVB Board of Directors decided to order an additional copy from its own resources instead of receiving a price reduction, as the costs of the overall order remain the same. On the night of September 4, 2014, the first seven-part copy was delivered to Basel by truck. The first five-part copy reached Basel, also by truck, on the night of September 1, 2016.

Antwerp and Ghent

The Belgian operator De Lijn announced in August 2012 that 48 Flexity 2 vehicles will be ordered for the Antwerp and Ghent tram networks for 128.6 million euros . Initially there were 28 five-part and 10 seven-part one-way vehicles for Antwerp and 10 seven-part two-way vehicles for Ghent. The contract also included an option for 40 more vehicles, which was converted into a firm order in spring 2015. These would replace the PCC vehicles currently in use. The Flexity-2 vehicles have a capacity up to 40% larger than the vehicles to be replaced.

The vehicles were co-designed by the Belgian designer Axel Enthoven and are known as the Albatros. They have been in use since 2015.

A total of 26 bidirectional vehicles, each consisting of seven modules and around 43 m long, are planned for the Ghent tram (including the option). They have a capacity of 378 people.

The Antwerp tram will receive 62 one-way vehicles, including 24 seven-car vehicles with space for up to 380 passengers. 38 vehicles are five-part with a length of around 31 m and a capacity of 266 passengers.

Zurich

After the completion of an award process that had dragged on for years, the Zurich public transport company (VBZ) announced in May 2016 that 70 Flexity 2 vehicles were being ordered for the Zurich tram for 358 million Swiss francs . There is also an option for a further 70 vehicles by the end of 2023. At the end of May 2016, Stadler Rail and Siemens, who were unsuccessful in the award procedure, appealed. After the court decision that these have no suspensive effect, the contract was signed on March 2, 2017.

License production in China

In 2012, Bombardier announced that it would license the Flexity 2 for manufacture for the Chinese market for 10 years as part of a technology transfer agreement with CSR Puzhen, a subsidiary of the Chinese rail vehicle manufacturer China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation .

As the first operator of Flexity 2 in China, the Suzhou tram has ordered 18 vehicles.
