The articulated multiple unit NGT12-LEI is a low-floor tram - articulated multiple unit of the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH (LVB). It belongs to the " Flexity Classic  XXL" type and was manufactured by Bombardier Transportation in Bautzen . The cars were ordered after comparing and introducing the Erfurt Combino 632 and the Dresden ET 2802, which was transferred directly to Leipzig by the manufacturer with adapted wheelsets in May 2003 and made its first trips with passengers here on May 17th. The first series from the order from November 2003 comprised twelve wagons of this type, an option for a further twelve wagons was redeemed in September 2005, so that since 2007 24 units have been operating in the Leipzig network . The third series was delivered from November 2011, so that since May 2012 the number of NGT 12 has increased to 33. Due to some changes, the wagons of the 2011/2012 delivery received the LVB type designation 38a.

The 45 meter long five-part multiple unit with air conditioning is based on the articulated multiple unit NGT D12DD , which has been in service with the Dresden Transport Authority (DVB) since 2003 . The units run entirely on real bogies , the middle part on two running bogies. This means that the car floor is not consistently low-floor; it is raised one step above the motor bogies of the end cars. The cars are in facility design executed at the rear end there is an auxiliary cab. Parts 2 and 4 have no drives.

The NGT 12 "Classic XXL" are used daily on lines 11 / 11E (Schkeuditz - Wahren - Dölitz - Markkleeberg Ost), 15 (Miltitz - Meusdorf) and 16 (Lößnig - exhibition grounds), which they serve almost exclusively. Operations on other lines are mostly limited to special traffic on special occasions (e.g. stadium or Advent traffic on weekends).

The names of the NGT12-LEI

In addition to their wagon numbers (1201–1233), all NGT12-LEI should be named after the venues for the 2006 World Cup and partner cities of Leipzig.
