Eurotram
The euro Tram is a low-floor - trams from Bombardier Transportation . It has been in use in Strasbourg since 1994 and was subsequently also delivered to Milan and Porto .
It was originally developed by ABB and the Italian company Socimi , after the bankruptcy of Socimi, ABB took over the production alone. With the merger of ABB with other companies in Adtranz , the manufacturer's name changed again. After Adtranz was taken over by Bombardier Transportation, the same company took over the production and added it - with the structurally very different Cityrunners - to its Flexity Outlook vehicle family .
The entire length of the Eurotram is low-floor (100% low-floor) and has a modern design : Large windows over the entire length and a flattened driver's cab with a single, large front window are more reminiscent of a high-speed train than a tram; Eurotram thus corresponds to the idea of a “rolling sidewalk”.
Strasbourg
For the renaissance of the Strasbourg tram , Socimi and ABB developed a vehicle with an individual design in cooperation with the municipal transport company CTS. The new network was opened in 1994 and Eurotrams have been in use ever since: First a first series of 26 eight-axle vehicles, of which a further ten were later procured. With the opening of two more lines in 2000, another 17 Eurotrams were added in a longer, ten-axle version. Due to the bankruptcy of Socimi, the vehicles were single-handedly built by ABB or later by Adtranz.
The vehicles proved their worth in operation, but the wide, one-piece doors met with criticism because they take a long time to open and close and thus increase the passenger switching time at the stops.
In 2003, for reasons of cost, the municipal transport company decided to order 35 Citadis trams from Alstom as the successor . These were modeled on the Eurotrams in design. They were needed for the further expansion of the network from 2007 onwards.
Milan
In September 1996, ATM Milano , operator of the Milan tram , ordered Eurotrams. A total of 26 vehicles were delivered by Adtranz in the years 1999–2002, which are now driving through Milan. The vehicles are different from the Strasbourg tracks directional vehicles and have a flat rear wall at the driverless end. With a length of 34.1 m and a width of 2.47 m, they offer 68 seats and 124 standing places (at 4 people / m²) as well as space for prams and wheelchairs.
Bombardier Transportation received the 19th Compasso d'Oro ADI , an Italian award for industrial design, for the design of the vehicles .
postage
There are currently 72 Bombardier light rail vehicles on the Metro do Porto . A vehicle can carry up to 215 people, multiple traction is possible. Since the euro Tram a wholly-owned low-floor - light rail is even downtown tunnel has no high-level platforms . The line network consists of six lines (A to F), some of which run on former, now converted, narrow-gauge railways of the CP .
In 2006 Metro do Porto ordered 30 Bombardier Flexity Swift vehicles , which have also been in use since the beginning of 2010.
