Gábor Kiss (sociologist)

Gábor Kiss (born August 21, 1931 in Budapest , † September 17, 1994 in Dortmund ) was a German sociologist of Hungarian origin.

Kiss emigrated in 1956 from Hungary and was in 1962 at the University of Hamburg for Dr. phil. doctorate , then worked there until 1964 as a scientific assistant at the seminar for Eastern European history, then switched to the social research department at the University of Münster in Dortmund, became an academic councilor at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (social science department) in 1967 and scientific councilor and associate professor in 1973 for sociology at Bielefeld University . Kiss had been a full professor of sociology since 1974 , first at the University of Education , then at the University of Dortmund .

His main focus was initially on Marxist sociology , later he turned increasingly to sociological theory, in particular sociological systems theory, always with pronounced didactic ambition .

In 1994 he died of a stroke .
