The Gándara Island ( Spanish Islote Gándara ) is an island off the north coast of the Trinity Peninsula at the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the group of Duroch Islands , it is immediately southwest of Kopaitic Island .
The name of the island was first recorded on a Chilean map from 1959. It is named after Jorge Gándara Bofill, captain of the Covadonga in the 1st (1947–1948) and 2nd (1948–1949) and leader of the 9th Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1954–1955).
