Gérard Favere
Gérard Favere (born July 26, 1903 in Avelgem , Belgium , † August 6, 1975 in Kortrijk ) was a Belgian composer and conductor .
Life
He began his first musical steps in the wind orchestra of his birthplace. He received extensive music lessons, including trumpet , at the music school in Kortrijk, Belgium. He studied harmony with the director of this music school . He later studied at the Conservatory in Gent , Belgium, with Henry Georges D'Hoedt , Léon Moeremans and Jean Decadt , who instructed him in the peculiarities of instrumentation. Later in life he went to Ghent again to study electronic music at the IPEM (Instituut voor Psycho-Akoestik en Electronic Muziek).
In 1930 he moved to Kortrijk. By profession he was a civil servant on the Belgian national railway, but he was a musician with heart and soul and devoted his entire life to the amateur music movement. In 1928 he became the conductor of the Sint-Lenaards Zonen fanfare orchestra in Bellegem , Belgium, and converted this fanfare into a wind orchestra (harmony). He remained loyal to this orchestra as a conductor for 35 years. In 1956 he became conductor of the amateur symphony orchestra in Kortrijk.
In 1959 the St. Cecilia Wind Orchestra in Lauwe , Belgium chose him as its conductor. In Avelgem, the town he was born in, he conducted the volunteer fire brigade's brass orchestra . In 1971 he was elected chairman of the West Flemish brass band association Flandria .
He wrote his first compositions for the symphony orchestra, later he also rewrote these works for wind orchestra, in order to devote himself almost exclusively to the composition of wind orchestra works afterwards.
