Gérard Hekking

Gérard Hekking (born June 12, 1879 in Nancy , † June 5, 1942 in Paris ) was a French cellist and cello teacher.

Hekking was principal cellist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam from 1903 to 1914 and at that time professor of violoncello at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam . Here he was the teacher of Theo Smit Sibinga . In 1912 Alphons Diepenbrock wrote his Berceuse (“Le Seigneur a dit à son enfant”) for him and his wife, a soprano.

During the First World War he was friends with Joseph Boulnois , who composed a cello sonata for him in 1917. From 1927 he taught at the Conservatoire de Paris . His students at the Conservatoire included Reine Flachot , Maurice Gendron and Paul Tortelier .

Hekking was the cousin of the cellists André and Anton Hekking .
