Gérard de Rhéninghe

Gérard de Rhéninghe († 1302 ) was Bishop of Metz from 1297 until his death .

Live and act

Gérard comes from a noble family from Flanders. His father was Johann von Ypres. He was archdeacon of Brabant . After the cathedral chapter could not agree on a candidate in 1297 and asked the Pope for a decision, Boniface VIII appointed Gérard bishop of Metz. After his death in 1302 he was buried in the St. Nicholas Chapel of Metz Cathedral.
