Rainald von Bar († May 4, 1316 ) was bishop of Metz from 1302 until his death .

Rainald was the son of Theobald II , Count von Bar and Jeanne de Toucy. The Bishop of Liège Theobald von Bar was his brother. Rainald had benefices in Beauvais , Cambrai , Laon , Metz , Reims and Verdun . Before 1296 he was archdeacon in Brussels and from 1299 in Besançon , became Primicerius in Metz in 1301 and provost of St. Madeleine in Verdun in 1302 . The cathedral chapter of Metz elected him bishop in 1302, but this was not recognized by Pope Boniface VIII , who himself claimed the right to appoint the bishop of Metz. On September 19, 1302 Boniface then appointed Rainald Bishop of Metz. Rainald mortgaged the Conde and Conflans castles to reduce the diocese's debts. He had conflicts with the city of Metz and the cathedral chapter, which sued him in 1308 because of his administration. The monasteries of St. Arnulf and Gorze were reformed by him. In 1306 he moved his residence to Vic-sur-Seille , in 1312 he took part in the Council of Vienne . After the death of his brother Count Heinrich III. Rainald von Bar became the guardian of his underage nephew Eduard .
