Géza Bereményi (born January 25, 1946 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian writer , film director and screenwriter .

biography

Bereményi studied Italian and Hungarian literature at Loránd Eötvös University and then worked as a writer. He published novels and short stories.

Since 1971 he has worked as a screenwriter and songwriter for film. For example, he wrote the screenplay for Márta Mészáros Two Women and for films by Zsolt Kézdi-Kovács . In 1982 the template for the film The time stands still followed , which was implemented by Péter Gothár . This film is about young people and their fascination for western music in Hungary after the popular uprising in 1956.

In 1985 Bereményi made his first feature film as a director, A Tanítványok , for which he received the directing award at the Hungarian Film Week . The second feature film, Eldorado , was released in 1988. This was nominated in several categories for the European Film Awards; Bereményi was awarded for “ best director ”. Eldorado describes life in Hungary between the end of World War II and the popular uprising, with a black marketeer acting as the protagonist.

This was followed by further script work and in 1993 the feature film A Turné . In 2002, he filmed the life story of István Széchenyi with In the Shadow of the Bridge .
