Göller ( Turkish for lakes ) is a Turkish village about 30 km east of Erzincan on the western Euphrates .

climate

Göller has a continental climate: the summers are warm to hot and dry, while the winters are rough and snowy. Most of the precipitation falls in spring. The total annual precipitation is approx. 480 mm and the annual average temperature is 11 ° C. The coldest month is January with −3.3 ° C, the warmest months are July and August with approx. 22 ° C.

location

Göller is located in the Esence Dağları mountain range , which borders the Erzincan plateau to the north. Neighboring villages are Piskidağ in the south and Yeni Abigey in the west. The village is located in the administrative area of the Üzümlü district .

population

Due to the general urban exodus, the number of permanent residents of the village decreased with the beginning of the 1970s. In winter, many leave the village for the big cities, whereas in the summer months there are also former residents in the village who come from abroad and also settle again.

Only Alevis live in Göller , who founded the village at the beginning of the 18th century. As in many rural areas of Turkey, the traditional written culture is missing in Göller, so that the large cemetery on the edge of the village is evidence of the naming of a settlement. The locals assume that their ancestors came from Iran . The reason for this assumption is the spoken Zazaisch , which is assigned to the western Iranian language branch.

Infrastructure

The Kalisbe spring is located away from the village . This supplied the village with water before the houses and farms were sporadically connected to a water network, which is fed by a reservoir. The houses are built either from clay or concrete, depending on the time they were built, with the latter construction (mostly in the country house style) being built away from the old village center.

The residents earn their living from agriculture (especially stone fruit, mulberries and grapes) and animal husbandry (sheep, cattle, goats). The village of Göller is known regionally for its grapes, which are exported nationwide via the wholesale market in Erzincan.

In addition to Turkish and Zazaisch, spoken languages are increasingly also German in summer. This is due to the fact that younger generations live exclusively in Germany and the place takes on the character of a holiday village. It can be observed that more and more retirees and pensioners are coming from v. a. Relocate Germany to their place of birth in the end of their life.

A tea house and simultaneous kiosk at the water reservoir marks the center around the dam-provided gorge that divides the village. Due to the low number of children in the village, the primary school is no longer in operation. Instead, the children go to the school in the valley in the village of Karakaya, which is also attended by the children from the neighboring villages.
