Gosta Liebert

Karl Gösta Liebert (born March 11, 1916 in Torsby ; † November 17, 1998 in Sävsjö ) was a Swedish Indologist .

Gösta Liebert was the son of specialist Karl Liebert and Hilda Karlssons. He obtained his school leaving certificate in Gothenburg in 1935 , became Philosophiae Candidatus in Lund in 1939 , Philosophiae Licentiatus ( Swedish fil. Lic. ) In 1944 and Philosophiae Doctor in 1949 with the treatise Das Nominalsuffix -ti- in Old Indian in Gothenburg. From 1940 to 1944 he was an employee of the Lund University Library .

In 1949 Gösta Liebert became a lecturer in Sanskrit and comparative linguistics at Lund University and worked as professor pro tempore there in 1950 and 1955 as well as in Uppsala 1951–53. From 1955 until his retirement in 1982 he was Professor of Comparative Linguistics and Sanskrit at the University of Gothenburg .

In 1971 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Science and Literature in Gothenburg .
