Götz Wienold

Götz Wienold (born July 15, 1938 in Großpostwitz ) is a German writer , linguist and semioticist. He was a professor at the University of Konstanz and at the Dokkyō University in Sōka , Japan. He has lived in Tokyo since 1992. His areas of expertise are typological semantics, language acquisition research in Japanese and Korean, semiotics and text linguistics. He writes plays, novels, short stories and essays.

Life

After graduating from high school in Dortmund in 1957, Wienold studied English, German, general and comparative linguistics and philosophy in Munich (1957/58), Göttingen (1958), Berlin (FU, 1958/59) and Münster (1959/64), in 1961 at the Münsteraner Exchange program in St. Andrews. 1964 Dr. phil., 1969 habilitation in Münster. 1964/66 Instructor, then Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Champaign / Urbana. From 1970 to 1992 Wienold was full professor for linguistics in Konstanz and lived in Switzerland, then he taught at the Dokkyo University in Sōka until 2003 .

In 1977 he began to occupy himself with the language, literature and culture of Japan, Korean, and numerous longer stays in Japan and South Korea followed. In 1992 he finally moved to Tokyo. From 2003 literary texts appear.

In numerous publications Wienold developed a theory of word processing and a theory of types of language use as a generalized pragmatics (especially of inscription and internal speaking); his occupation with East Asian and Southeast Asian languages ​​led him to typological semantics (verbs of movement, dimensional expressions, nominal classifications).

A strong interest in literature throughout his life, which was also documented in publications on linguistic poetics, narrative theory, the translation of Japanese literature and works by various authors (including Hermann Broch , Paul Celan , Thomas Mann , Volker Braun , Georg Trakl , Stefan Zweig , Franz Fühmann ) .
