The Gümser See is located in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony , on the northern outskirts of Gümse , a district of the town of Dannenberg (Elbe) in the Elbtalaue municipality .
The extension of the 17 hectare lake is around two kilometers in an east-west direction. The width is mostly 70 to 80 meters, with a maximum width of around 85 meters. The very narrow, elongated shape points to an origin as a former Elbe ( oxbow river ).
