Günter Ahrends

Günter Ahrends (born December 27, 1937 in Wilhelmshaven ) is a German Anglist , theater scholar and professor emeritus at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

Ahrends studied English, philosophy and history in Cologne and Bonn and completed his studies in Bonn in 1965 with the first state examination and doctorate. From 1965 to 1975 he was a research assistant, academic advisor and senior academic advisor at the English Department of the University of Bonn . In 1974 he completed his habilitation there and acquired the venia legendi for English studies, including American studies. In 1975 he was appointed full professor of English philology at the English Department of the Ruhr University in Bochum. In 1987 Ahrends was also awarded the venia legendi for theater studies by the Faculty of Philology at the Ruhr University.

From 1988 to 1992 he was the initiator of the founding of the institute and the first managing director of the Institute for Theater, Film and Television Studies at the Ruhr University.
