Günter Bruns

Günter Bruns (born February 3, 1914 in Berlin ; † August 28, 2003 Jena ) was a German physician ( pathology ) and professor at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

Bruns initially worked at the Pathological Institute at the University of Jena , where he qualified as a professor under Walther Fischer in 1952 and held the provisional chair for pathology from 1953 to 1956. In 1957 he became a full professor of pathology at the University of Halle-Wittenberg as the successor to Julius Wätjen and director of the Institute of Pathology. In 1960 he became dean of the medical faculty in Halle. After resigning his professorship in protest and because of conflicts at the university, he took over the Experimental Pathology Department in 1962 and later the Experimental Therapy Department at the Institute for Microbiology and Experimental Therapy of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in Jena.

In 1969 he received the Carus Prize . In 1960 he became a member of the Leopoldina and from 1963 to 1976 secretary of its medical department. In 1974 he received the Leopoldina Medal of Merit .
