Günter Burkart

Günter Burkart (born December 16, 1950 ) is a German cultural sociologist and university professor at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg .

Life

Burkart studied sociology and a doctorate in 1981 in Frankfurt am Main to Dr. phil. This was followed by teaching and research activities at colleges and universities in Klagenfurt, Berlin (Free University), Philadelphia (University of Pennsylvania), Mannheim, Freiburg and Lüneburg. He completed his habilitation in 1994 at the Free University of Berlin and has been Professor of Cultural Sociology at the University of Lüneburg since 1998. His scientific work focuses on the areas of cultural sociology and cultural theory, in particular on the subjects of individualization , couple relationships and family , gender relations ; Sociology of technology and media as well as qualitative methods and methodology .

From 2000 to 2008 he was the spokesman for the family sociology section of the German Society for Sociology . Since 2007 Burkart has been working in an international research group on the subject of linking social theory and gender research and from 1995 to 2001 on the DFG project “Gender norms in couple relationships in a milieu comparison”.
