Günter Gruber

Günter (Georg) Gruber (born October 4, 1948 in Munich ) is a German diplomat and was ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from 2008 to 2013 . He has been retired since summer 2013.

He completed his business administration studies at the Free University of Berlin in 1977 with a doctorate.

After joining the Foreign Service in 1981, he was employed at the Embassy in France, at the Embassy in Indonesia and at the Foreign Office in Bonn.

From 1991 to 1994 he was envoy and head of the economic department at the University of Singapore and then deputy head of the public relations department at the Federal Foreign Office in Bonn. In 1996 Dr. Gruber press spokesman and head of the press and public relations department at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations in New York. In 1998 he took over the management of the German Information Center for the USA in New York. From 2000 to 2004 he was Legation Counselor and Head of the Country Department for Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific at the Foreign Office in Berlin. From July 2004 to August 2008 he was Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Sydney .
