In the 1963/64 season Riedl started with appearances in the first four league games, but only came back to eight league games in the second half of the season, where he scored his first league goal on the last match day. At the end of the season, Chemie Halle was relegated to the GDR league , but managed to get promoted again immediately. In the following GDR league season he completed only three point games and one game of the eight promotion games. After the HFC had managed the immediate rise again, Riedl came back only sporadically in nine league games in the 1974/75 season, in November 1975 he began a six-month reservist assignment in the National People's Army .
