Günter Schmidt (computer scientist)

Günter Schmidt (* 1951 ) is a German computer scientist. He holds the chair for Operations Research and Business Informatics at Saarland University .

Career

Günter Schmidt studied industrial engineering, specializing in mechanical engineering, at the Technical University of Berlin from 1970 to 1977, followed by a postgraduate course in computer science, during this time went to ISCOR -Steel in Pretoria in South Africa for a year and was awarded a Dr.-Ing. PhD with the thesis "Polynomial Solvable Scheduling Problems with Time-Limited Resource Availability". In 1988 the TU Berlin awarded him his habilitation with the venia legendi for applied computer science and operations research . He deals with the application of combinatorial optimization to scheduling (processes) and trading (trading) problems and is editor of the Springer handbook series "International Handbooks on Information Systems" and associate editor of the "Journal of Scheduling".

From 1988 to 1991 Schmidt owner was the Chair of Economics computer science at the European Business School and moved from there to the University of the Saarland, where it meets the Department of Operations Research and Business Informatics holds and member of the faculties of law and economics, and mathematics and computer science is .

In 1995 Schmidt was offered a full professorship for production informatics at the University of Klagenfurt . In 1998 he was offered a full professorship for production and logistics at the University of Vienna and in 2000 he was offered a C4 professorship for business informatics at Clausthal University of Technology .

In 1995 Schmidt went to the Technical University in Sydney , Australia, as a visiting professor . Three years later he was a visiting professor at the ICSI computer science institute in Berkeley. Schmidt has been an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Cape Town , South Africa, since 2012 .
