Günter Schneider (bank manager)

Günter Schneider (born November 11, 1930 in Gelsenkirchen ; † January 6, 2005 in Neuss ) was a German manager in the banking sector . From 1990 to 1997 he was the first CEO of Deutsche Postbank AG .

Schneider completed a degree in business administration at the University of Cologne and began his professional career in 1956. After stints at Nordstern Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG and the Bank für Gemeinwirtschaft , he moved to KKB-Bank in 1960 . Until 1986 Schneider held various positions there, most recently as spokesman for the management. In 1990 he was appointed CEO of Deutsche Postbank AG by the then Post Minister Christian Schwarz-Schilling . In protest against the cooperation agreement between Postbank and Deutsche Post , Schneider resigned as CEO on May 7, 1997, shortly before his regular retirement .
