Günther Boekhoff

Günther Boekhoff (born January 31, 1938 in Heisfelde , today a district of Leer (East Friesland) ) is a former German local politician ( SPD ) and former mayor of the city of Leer (East Friesland).

Boekhoff attended elementary school until 1953 and then began a commercial apprenticeship, which he completed in 1956. He took a job as a commercial clerk. From 1965 until his move into the Lower Saxony state parliament in 1982, he was employed by the state central bank of Lower Saxony , most recently in the Leer branch. Boekhoff became chairman of the supervisory board of Energieversorgung Weser-Ems AG in Oldenburg (until October 29, 2012) and chairman of the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Leer. He was also a member of the advisory board of Preussen Elektra , based in Hanover. He is Deputy Chairman of the EWE Foundation's Board of Directors.

He has been a member of the SPD since 1963 and in 1991 became chairman of the SPD sub-district and assessor on the district executive committee of his party in the Weser-Ems district. Boekhoff was councilor from 1968 and mayor of the city of Leer from 1973 to 2001. In 1976 he became a member of the district council of the district of Leer and in the 10th to 12th electoral term (1982-1994) a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament . After finishing his term of office as mayor, he was appointed honorary mayor and honorary citizen by the city council of Leer . An appointment as an honorary citizen of the city of Leer has only taken place twice to date (the writer Wilhelmine Siefkes became an honorary citizen in 1970 ).
