Günther Merl

Günther Merl (born March 30, 1946 in Amberg ) was the spokesman for the management committee of the Financial Market Stabilization Agency .

Merl studied business administration from 1966 to 1971 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . He received his doctorate in 1973. From 1974 he worked for Westdeutsche Landesbank (WestLB) until he moved to Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen (Helaba) in Frankfurt am Main in 1978 . From 1986 to 1990 Merl was a member of the Management Board of Helaba Luxembourg and from 1991 to 2001 a member of the Management Board of Helaba. In July 2001 he became CEO of Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen. In September 2008, Merl resigned as CEO and resigned from the bank. Merl was also a member of the Board of Directors of DekaBank Deutsche Girozentrale until September 30th .

In October 2008, Federal Finance Minister Steinbrück appointed him spokesman for the steering committee of the Financial Market Stabilization Agency, which administers the Financial Market Stabilization Fund. As early as January 2009, Merl announced that he would be giving up his post on January 31 for personal reasons.

Merl is Catholic, married and has one daughter.
