Günther Mund

Günther Artur Mund Borgs or "Günter Mund" (born August 7, 1934 in Santiago de Chile , † March 27, 2011 near Melipilla , Chile ) was a German-Chilean diver and entrepreneur.

Life

Günther Mund was the son of Arthur Mund ( Halberstädter SV) and Margret Borgs , who were internationally successful water divers and took part in the 1928 Olympic Games for Germany in Amsterdam. Arthur and Margret emigrated to Chile in 1929, married and settled in Santiago de Chile with a swimming company in the Ñuñoa district. Günter was born on August 7, 1934 in Santiago de Chile.

As a 13-year-old, Mund represented Chile in diving at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, where he took 26th place in jumping from the 3-meter board. At the Games in Melbourne in 1956 , he took 7th place in the same discipline and 19th place from the 10-meter tower.

Mund was a trained sports teacher and completed postgraduate studies in Germany (Cologne). He was a member of two swimming clubs in Cologne and Düsseldorf. He specialized in the construction and operation of saunas, steam baths and swimming pools. In Santiago de Chile , Mund ran a spa consisting of a swimming pool, sports and fitness studio, and wellness and beauty center.

Mund was killed in an aircraft accident when the gyroplane he was piloting crashed 15 minutes after take-off near the town of Melipilla , around 90 km south of Santiago de Chile .
