Günther Pöltner

Günther Pöltner (born June 13, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian university professor of philosophy at the University of Vienna .

Life

Piano studies at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (graduated in 1962 with distinction), studies in philosophy, pedagogy and history at the University of Vienna (doctorate sub auspiciis 1967), research stay at the University of Freiburg i. Br. 1972, habilitation 1976, professor of philosophy at the University of Vienna 1981, head of the Institute for Philosophy at the University of Vienna (1983–1986), deputy. Head of the Institute for Ethics and Law in Medicine at the University of Vienna (1993–2003), member of the Bioethics Commission at the Federal Chancellery (2001–2011, deputy chairman until 2009).

Visiting professorships at the Universities of Münster (1989, 1994), Graz (1995, 1996), the Fernuniversität Hagen (2019). I.a. Research stay (invitation by the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science 1993) and lecture tours in Japan. Günther Pöltner is a member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas , the Academy of Ethics in Medicine , the European Academy of Sciences and Arts .
