Güntisberg ( dialect Im Güntschbärg ) is a hamlet in the Zurich Oberland , an outside watch of the community of Wald . The core of the settlement lies at 739  m above sea level. M. , highest point ( Güpfel ) at 763  m above sea level. M.

settlement

Güntisberg was one of six school communities in the political community of Wald in the late 19th century. The hamlet of Mettlen to the west of Güntisberg, the hamlet of Hiltisberg to the south, and the farms of Batzenberg, Gart, Dachsegg, Hagenacher, Schebi, Grossweiher and Widenriet also belonged to it.

The Güntisbergstrasse, which connects the forest with the Hiltisberg, leads over the Güntisberg. Apart from a school bus from the community of Wald, there are no bus routes. There is one restaurant each in Güntisberg and Hiltisberg.

geography

geology

Güntisberg is located on the south-eastern foothills of the Batzberg , south of the settlement core of Wald, roughly halfway between the villages of Wald and Eschenbach . The Batzberg was formed about 24,000 years ago by the decline of the Rhine glacier . Almost the entire mountain is used for agriculture or is forested.

climate

The Güntisberg has a varied climate, which can be attributed to the geographical location between warm and cold air. The amount of precipitation is around 1100 millimeters per year. The warmest months are between June and August with 13.2 hours of sunshine and an average of 23.1 ° C, the coldest are between December and February with an average of 2.1 ° C.

echo

An acoustic echo is a topological peculiarity . Due to the unusual shape of the terrain and the clear tree line of the forest clearing as an acoustic mirror, sound waves are reflected back after a few seconds. This creates an auditory event that is separate from the causer and is perceived as an echo by the human ear.

Observatory and research station

An observatory was built on the highest point of Güntisberg in 1993 on behalf of the Zurich Oberland Astronomical Society (AGZO) . Due to a stable and a large walnut tree, observing the sky in the west turned out to be difficult, which is why the facility was expanded in 1997 to include an additional observation point in the west.
