The Batzberg is a mountain in the Zurich Oberland , in the municipality of Rüti ZH and Wald ZH . The northern and western foothills belong to Rüti, the eastern and southern parts of the forest. The Batzberg is delimited in the north by the Jona , in the south, beyond the cantonal border with Eschenbach SG , by the Lattenbach. The Batzberg was formed about 24,000 years ago by the decline of the Rhine glacier . The course of the moraines is from east to west and forms a landscape of elongated hills and stream valleys south and west of the hill, including Plöchleren, Tüfental, Deggleregg, Weierholz and Grossweierriet, Gründ, Dachsegg.
The Batzberg castle is about 400 m northwest of the summit, at 725 m above sea level. M. Batzenberg Castle is entered on Jos Murer's canton map (1566) with its own coat of arms. In the 14th century it was the seat of the Lords von Batzberg, Werner and Dietrich, sons of an Eglof von Dürnten. The castle existed for less than a hundred years. The ruins were gradually removed as building material; the entry as an existing castle at Murer is anachronistic.
The mountain is forested, its slopes and foothills are used for agriculture, with the exception of the rugged moraine landscape in a west-southwest direction. The Walder Aussenwacht Güntisberg is located on the south-eastern foothills of the Wald settlement .
The amount of precipitation is around 1100 millimeters per year. The warmest months are between June and August with 13.2 hours of sunshine and an average of 23.1 ° C, the coldest are between December and February with an average of 2.1 ° C.
