Günz-Haslach-Interglacial

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Günz-Haslach interglacial (also Günz-Haslach warm period ) is the one warm period of the Pleistocene of the Alps . It lies between the Günz and Haslach glaciers .

structure

The Günz-Haslach interglacial is defined as the phase of erosion that follows the Günz glacial period and preceded the Haslach glacial period. It thus corresponds to the layer gap between the Zeiler gravel in Swabia and the Haslacher gravel northeast of the Rheingletscher . Deposits from the Günz-Haslach interglacial period have so far only been proven as weathering ( soil ) on the Zeil gravel. The erosion during the interglacial is very pronounced, and the composition of the gravel before and after is different.

The interglacial can possibly be correlated with the MIS 15. In this case it would have been around 540,000 to 600,000 years old. However, there is evidence that the interglacial is older than MIS 15.

The Günz-Haslach interglacial corresponds at least partially to the Swiss gravel glaciers.
