GEE ( Games Entertainment Education ) was a 2003-2013 published German multiplatform computer games - Magazine . It was published by the publisher GEE Media & Marketing GmbH in Hamburg , appeared eight times a year, and contained around 100 pages per issue.

In contrast to most other game magazines, the magazine was not a classic test magazine , but rather a background magazine . In particular, the magazine refrained from valuations in the form of numbers and also tried to focus on the cultural and artistic aspects of computer and video games. Reports and short stories that went beyond the medium were also printed. The magazine was aimed primarily at adult readers and long-time players.

history

The first edition appeared in October 2003. For the April 2007 edition, the subline was changed from “Games_Entertainment_Education” to “Love * for * Games”. From the February / March 2005 edition to May / June 2006, the GEE included a DVD with videos of tested games, film trailers and video game-related short films.

As of the February / March 2005 issue, the GEE dispensed with a rating system as used in most other specialist magazines. Instead, positive and negative aspects are shown directly in the test report.

Issue 61 (May 2011) was the last print edition in the previous format, the later editions were primarily published in digital form as "GEE Display", in app form for the iPad and iPhone . There was no way to read the GEE display on other devices. A printed edition continued to appear, but only four times a year and on a reduced scale. On February 14, 2013, a “creative break” was announced and the publication of the magazine ended for the time being. On October 9, 2013, a special edition was published (in print) for the tenth anniversary. In this issue the final discontinuation of the magazine was announced.

content

The main categories of each edition of GEE are:

  • Crossfire: Up-to- date information, new video game gimmicks and a retro section
  • Stories: Detailed reports on pioneering future computer or video games, but also on topics beyond the current game operations
  • Media: Tests ( reviews ) of current computer or video games, DVDs and music CDs, as well as other products that have anything to do with video games.

Edition

In the fourth quarter of 2007, the average monthly circulation according to IVW was 19,639 copies. In 2011 the print run was 28,000 copies and in the last year in which the magazine was still published regularly, the print run was 26,800 copies.
