The GE AC4400CW is a series of 6-axle diesel-electric locomotives from the US locomotive manufacturer General Electric (GE).
A total of 2,598 machines of this series were manufactured. This makes the AC4400CW one of the most built locomotives in the world.
development
The AC4400CW is a further development of the GE Dash 9-44CW series and is largely identical to it. The most obvious difference between the vehicles and the Dash 9 is the additional housing on the left-hand side of the vehicle, in which the inverters are housed. The main difference between a GE Dash 9-44CW and an AC4400CW is the three-phase drive technology .

As the type designation AC4400CW describes, this machine is a diesel locomotive with diesel-electric drive in alternating current ( AC ) with 4,400 hp = 3,280 kW . The diesel engine drives a three-phase synchronous generator, which supplies the three-phase asynchronous motors with electricity. The drive motors are each controlled individually by an inverter . The machines run on three-axle bogies ( wheel arrangement Co'Co 'American term C -C) and large (English w ide body) cab . The series designation is made up of the components marked in italics. The machines are driven by a 16-cylinder diesel engine from the 7FDL-16 series.
