GFriend ( Korean 여자 친구 ) is a South Korean girl group founded by Source Music in 2015. The group officially debuted on January 15, 2015 with the mini-album Season of Glass and the single Glass Bead ( 유리 구슬 ) . GFriend's official fan club name is Buddy.

history

2015: Debut with Season of Glass

On January 15, 2015 GFriends first mini-album Season of Glass was released together with the single Glass Bead . An article appeared on billboard.com in February that put GFriend at number 9 on the list of the most viewed K-pop videos in January 2015. At the end of January, the group was mentioned on Billboard and included in the list of “Top 5 K-Pop Artists to Watch in 2015”.

In July GFriends second mini-album Flower Bud was released together with the single Me Gustas Tu ( 오늘 부터 우리 는 ) . GFriend became internationally known in September 2015 when a video spread on the Internet that she was performing with Me Gustas Tu . The group had to struggle with the stage, which had become slippery from rainwater. Yuju and SinB fell several times; Yuju fell eight times and was slightly injured. Even so, she kept getting up and singing the song to the end, which earned her and the group a lot of praise and respect for their professionalism.

2016–2017: Snowflake , LOL and The Awakening

On January 25, 2016, the third mini-album Snowflake was released together with the single Rough ( 시간 을 달려서 ) . With Rough , the group was able to achieve their first victory in a music show. In total, the single won 15 music shows. Rough became the group's first number one hit, making it to number 3 in the Gaon Annual Singles Chart in 2016 and number 1 in the Annual Download Charts.

On July 11th GFriend released the first studio album LOL together with the single Navillera ( 너 그리고 나 ) . This single also brought GFriend 14 more music show wins, with which they could receive a total of 29 wins in 2016.

On March 6, 2017, the fourth mini-album The Awakening was released together with the single Fingertip ( 핑거 팁 ) .

On August 1, the fifth mini-album Parallel was released together with the single Love Whisper ( 귀 를 기울 이면 ) . In September, Parallel was re-released under the name Rainbow with the new single Summer Rain ( 여름 비 ) .

2018: First solo concert and Japan debut

On January 6th and 7th the group gave their first two solo concerts in Seoul. A few days later the group announced their first tour called "Season of GFriend". The tour started on February 28 in Taiwan and will take the group to Japan and the Philippines, among others, over the course of the year.

On April 30, the sixth mini-album Time for the Moon Night was released along with the single of the same name.

On May 23rd, GFriend officially debuted in Japan with the album 今日 か ら 私 た ち は ~ GFRIEND 1st BEST ~.

On July 10, GFriend released their seventh mini-album Sunny Summer together with the single of the same name

Her first original Japanese single, Memoria , was released on October 10th with the Japanese version of her Korean single "夜 (Time for the moon night).

2019: 2nd studio album, more Japanese singles, Japan / Asia tour

On January 14th, GFriend released their 2nd studio album with 13 tracks and the single Sunrise (해야).

Her 2nd Japanese single Sunrise (JP Ver.) Was released on February 13th along with the single La Pam Pam .

On February 14th, the 3rd Japanese single FLOWER will be released with the song of the same name and another called Beautiful .

GFriend will first go on a Japan tour, then on their second Asia tour in spring / summer 2019.

On July 1, the group released their EP Fever Season with the single Fever (열대야).
