The Gymnastics Society Bern (GGB) was founded on April 11, 1910 by the gymnastics teacher Jakob Steinemann, together with former students.

The GGB has long been a multi-sport club with sections in skiing, handball and even ice hockey.

In 1924, Willy Schaerer came second at the Olympic Games in Paris over 1500 m.

Anita Weyermann was third over 1500 m at the 1997 World Cup .

Handball

The handball department of the GGB was founded in 1933. The handball players won the Swiss championship in field handball from 1941 to 1943. In 1943 and 1973 they were field handball cup winners. In 1971 the GGB became Swiss champions in small-field handball and in 1973 cup winners. In 1972 and 1974 the GGB rose to the National League A for one year each .

In 1994, the GGB got back in the National League B on.

On December 3, 1999, the GGB merged with the HBC Muri-Gümligen.
