The approximately 40 lessons in German, English and mathematics focus on visual learning in small steps. The project started in March 2011 by the education channel ARD-alpha was designed for nationwide use and was created in cooperation with numerous educational institutions and teachers.

The program has several target groups: teachers who use lessons, pupils from all types of schools up to the 10th grade, adult users who want to refresh and deepen their knowledge and parents who want to better support their children. The TV films also offer subtitles for the hearing impaired .

The concept of the program

GRIPS is a modular concept. The learners can learn independently using multimedia or just use films, reading texts or interactive editions.

In the 15-minute films, young moderators explain basic knowledge to two to three students using practical examples at special locations. These are professional situations such as construction sites (Pythagoras), leisure activities (fear of exams, high ropes course) or everyday situations (English small talk while grilling with New Zealanders).

The moderators are real teachers, namely Sebastian Wohlrab ( mathematics ), Steffi Chita ( German ) and Michael Meisenzahl ( English ). In English, there is additional technical support from Camilla Smith from Scotland.

The films are used in a multimedia dramaturgy on the Internet . In a modular “Mediabox”, short sequences of the films alternate quickly with short text summaries and additional information such as graphics . The user is involved in the film process because he has to answer questions from the film again and again and the solution then follows in the film. Interactive intermediate tasks also offer a quick sense of achievement. A number of media boxes have additional film scenes that do not appear in the TV version.

In addition to the media boxes, there is a detailed reading section and a detailed exercise section with interactive tasks. The individual solution steps are described in detail in many places.

The films are available for download: reduced data for mobile use as podcasts and for teaching use in DVD quality. Additional offers are general learning tips and service information on school leaving certificates.
